THE SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The anointing of the sick is a sacrament of the Church in which the priest prays, lays hands and anoints the sick person with blessed oil. Anyone who is dangerously ill due to sickness, injury or old age may be anointed. The sacrament is for serious mental or emotional illness as well. This sacrament offers the Lord’s healing strength and peace to anyone who is seriously or chronically ill, hospitalized, or about to undergo surgery.

On the first Friday of each month, the Saint Anne Catholic Community offers the Sacrament of Healing at the conclusion of the 8:15 a.m. Mass. All are welcome, especially those who are sick or suffering in any way in mind, body or spirit.

If you or a family member are in need of this sacrament, please call our Parish Office at 847-382-5300 or Mary Ellen Johnston, Director, Care Ministries at 773-456-6664.

As your pastor, may I offer you some pastoral counsel … If you have a loved one in the hospital, in a hospice facility or at home in need of the strengthening, peace and comfort of this Sacrament … I encourage you to call the parish when your loved one is able to consciously experience the power of this Sacrament. So often, parishioners call the parish at the very last moment before a loved one’s passing. This is certainly understandable, but when family members and their loved ones can share in this sacramental moment together, it can be an incredible source of spiritual comfort, healing and reconciliation.
